MACHI (FISH)

Machi, meaning 'Fish', tells the story of a Tharu household in Nepal preparing for the Maghi festival. Their fishing expedition results in a meager catch, reflecting the dwindling fish stocks due to destructive practices like electrofishing and blasting. The poem recited by Sangita Guruwa, a member of the group, expresses her hope for the recovery of fish stocks and the restoration of the Tharu's cultural and environmental ecosystem. Through her words, we gain a deeper understanding of how the environment has changed over time and the importance of a thriving ecosystem in shaping daily life.
